This class is designed to help students develop the ability to think, write, and talk about art no matter their background. Through the study of digital reproductions, films, and (when possible) museum visits, students will learn about the art and artists of the Modernist tradition. These include precursors to the Modern era, followed by a focus on Modernist works: Impressionism, Post Impressionism, Expressionism, Cubism, Futurism, Fauvism, Constructivism, Dada, Bauhaus, Surrealism, and Abstract Expressionism. Students will also examine key texts and events that helped to shape the origins of Modernism.
