This course is a practical introduction to the language, culture and practices of American independent schools. It is designed to prepare new international students for the academic, social and linguistic challenges they will face, to ensure that their school experiences are as rewarding and successful as possible. Subjects covered include pragmatics of classroom discussions; sources, citations and academic honesty; standards of formal and informal language; practical email composition; common essay formats; and effective time management.
