In this course, we will explore modern films related to ancient Greece and Rome, including Spartacus and Ben-Hur (about Rome), as well as Troy and 300 (about Greece). We will also examine films related to Greek and Roman mythology, like Clash of the Titans and Disney’s Hercules. Discussions of these films will relate to how ancient Greeks and Romans are portrayed by modern Hollywood filmmakers and to what extent these films match the reality of what life was like for people living in ancient Greece and Rome. This course is highly recommended for students who enjoy watching and analyzing films and who have a strong interest in Classical mythology or ancient history.
