This course introduces students to the language and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. We build a foundational vocabulary and basic knowledge of sentence structure. Students develop skills in presentational speaking, conversational speaking, and informal writing. Cultural information presented throughout the course provides a platform for making intercultural connections. Topics covered include geography of the Spanish-speaking world, personal identification, school, meal taking, leisure, family, house and home, shopping, and physical environment. Students who successfully complete this course may advance to Spanish 2.
