Everyone should read a screenplay at least once! In this course, students will learn the fundamentals of visual storytelling, both through analytical study and through the hands-on, creative process of writing for the screen. We will cover topics including screenplay structure and format, setting, character, theme, tone, conflict, dialogue, and subtext. Throughout, students will be encouraged to explore the tools of the filmmaker, using cinematic language to write visually. We will also introduce some of the practicalities of screenwriting as a profession, including the art of pitching stories.
