This course is intended for students who are interested in understanding music at a deeper level, but who have limited or no formal experience in music theory. This course will introduce students to foundational concepts related to Western music theory: Pitch concepts (note letter names, scales, keys, intervals, and chords); Rhythm concepts (tempo, meter, rhythmic values); Timbre concepts (different instruments and sound sources); and Form concepts (musical structure and organization). Students will read, write, and analyze music from a variety of traditions.
