This course is a 4-week summer intensive.
In this course, students will develop the vocabulary, technical knowledge, and conceptual apparatus needed to analyze films as literature and art. Subject areas covered will include visual analysis, sound, acting, cinematography, direction, and editing. Students will be introduced to the canons of film criticism, the major eras of film history, and key genres of cinema. Students will apply their knowledge in analyzing a range of films, covering a wide range of genres and styles, and reflecting on the major subject areas covered in class. No prior knowledge of filmmaking or film history is required.
