This course provides the content of a college-level introductory Chemistry course. Topics covered include atomic structure, intermolecular forces and bonding, chemical reactions, kinetics, thermodynamics, and equilibrium. Students engage with the material through a blend of live online instruction, self-guided study, and collaborative group work. Hands-on labs — including online simulations, take-home labs, and (when possible) proctored on-campus labs — form a backbone of empirical study. The adoption of microscale practices for the AP lab creates a safer and more environmentally friendly approach. On successful completion of this course, students will be prepared to sit the AP Chemistry exam.

Completion of this course requires regular access to a laptop or desktop computer with working microphone and webcam, as well as a reliable internet connection. In addition, this course includes a lab component and requires the purchase of additional materials.

This Fixed-Paced course incorporates a blend of synchronous and asynchronous elements. Students and teacher meet live via zoom on a regular weekly schedule. In addition, students complete coursework including guided readings, interactive videos, text and video-based discussion threads, problem sets, individual and collaborative projects, and so on. While these activities are time-flexible, teachers sequence them with weekly deadlines to help students keep on track and encourage and support the development of productive time management skills.
