In this course students explore the historical formation and contemporary character of African American experiences. This course is not a simple chronological history. Rather, students will be challenged to interrogate their understanding of race and racism, slavery and freedom, discrimination and equality, identity, culture and citizenship, all through the lens of African American lives and narratives.
