In this course, students will learn to recognize, understand and describe the basic materials and processes of music that are heard or presented in a score. We address fundamental aural, analytical and compositional skills using listening and written exercises. Building on this foundation, we include more creative tasks: harmonizing a melody, composing a musical bass line to provide a two-voice counterpoint, and realizing figured-bass notation.
